Origin of the JIPM TPM Awards
In 1964, the Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM) established the initial recognition system called the PM Excellence Award, aiming to drive the modernization of industrial maintenance and strengthen the competitiveness of Japanese factories.
In 1971, the award was restructured as the TPM Excellence Award, aligning with the formal definition of TPM as a comprehensive system involving the entire organization, from the shop floor to top management.
In 1989, the award criteria were expanded to ensure company-wide TPM implementation, including commitment from operations to the board of directors.
Since 1964, JIPM has presented more than 3,400 awards to plants worldwide, evaluated through rigorous technical audits.
